Our free lunch program, now in its third year, has been featured in the Kansas City Star and also on the local NBC Morning Show. We even received an encouraging email from someone in Scotland who heard about this ministry!
Every Wednesday, from about 10:30-12:30, more than 20 volunteers join together to serve whoever walks through our doors a free lunch. Usually its high school students, but all are welcome. Last year we served over 27,500 people free hot dogs, chips and a drink. This year we expect the number to be even higher! As you might imagine, it's quite a sight to see hundreds of teenagers literally running down the street to get inside a church. That's one of the reasons that we always look forward to Wednesdays around here. It's a unique opportunity to let a LOT of people know that they are loved and are welcome at our church. During the summer we still serve a meal its just a much smaller crowd. So, whether you're interested in working, eating or just watching, we hope you will join us sometime. It may not be true anywhere else, but at First Christian Church of North Kansas City there really is such a thing as a free lunch!
